G.fast may be adopted in 2014

ITU is going to standardize the new G.fast standard. This is the new era of the good old DSL.

This standard in tests showed a peak speed of 1.1 Gbps in test conditions on good copper at a distance of 70 meters on Alkatel-Lucent equipment. But at a distance of 100 meters, the speed dropped to 800 Mbit / s, and on the usual old copper pair in Austria, a speed of 500 Mbit / s was achieved.

G.fast is an important standard for ISPs worldwide. This standard will allow providing communication services to subscribers at optical connection speeds without additional laying of optical communication lines to each subscriber.
