A Google employee is the first person Microsoft has paid for a found vulnerability in IE11

Microsoft presented its first award for the found vulnerability to a Google employee, writes The Verge. The company launched several bonus programs for found vulnerabilities at the end of last month, in which you can participate until the end of July.

Up to 11 thousand dollars was promised to find a critical vulnerability in the IE11 preview, and Google engineer Ivan Fratrik was the first to whom Microsoft paid for the vulnerability found.

However, Google employees regularly report bugs in Microsoft software directly to the company, although some decide to report them publicly. Microsoft used to traditionally avoid large award programs for bugs found, preferring to organize small contests for specific exploits.

Whereas, under the terms of the bonus program, the maximum reward can amount to 11 thousand dollars, how much exactly Fratrik received is unknown. “We have other researchers who have also been eligible for the award under the IE11 program,” the company said.

During the first two weeks, Microsoft received more than ten reports of vulnerabilities — more than the company receives on average per month. Given that Microsoft is going to speed up the cycle of updates for Windows, bonus programs can greatly help a company find bugs in a timely manner.
