Test the galaxy for strength

Good day, Habr!

Surely, in the life of each of us there have been unpleasant incidents with the fall of a smarfton on the floor “butter down” or a good mug of tea tipping it over. These are just a couple of examples of domestic accidents that happen to our irreplaceable mobile companions and helpers every day around the world. In recent years, smartphones have begun to look more elegant and elegant, their thickness, sometimes, does not exceed the thickness of a simple pencil, and the weight has become completely insignificant. All this could not but affect the stability of mobile devices in front of the merciless and vile influences of the curves of the hands of the external environment.

')
Samsung Electronics recently unveiled a variety of crash test results for this year’s flagship smartphone, the Samsung GALAXY S4. What came of it, you can contemplate under the cut.

I fell ... a smartphone.

For starters, GALAXY S4 tested on its case hundreds of drops on a hard metal floor. After a similar test, the smartphone, however, looked pretty good on the outside and remained completely functional in a functional manner.

But the tests with the fall were not limited to: in order to look at the consequences of the protracted flights of a mobile device over long distances, Samsung experts developed the so-called “free-fall test”. Although such cases in everyday life are extremely rare, their consequences can be extremely destructive for high-tech parts of the gadget, and GALAXY S4, being the top brainchild of the company, must endure even such inhuman treatment.

In addition to the usual tests with a drop from top to bottom on a horizontal surface, the GALAXY S4 was destined to take a more acrobatic “drop test with coups”. A similar test allowed to simulate situations such as dropping a smartphone down a flight of stairs. For this, the GALAXY S4 had to dig deep inside the “drum”. Again, only the test outcome in which the device remained fully functional could be acceptable. So it was in the end!

Hit me properly!

The sudden impact in the form of a strong impact can be fatal for the functioning of the smartphone, so the GALAXY S4 had to go through a series of ruthless tests for impact resistance. It's no secret that the screen is the most vulnerable part of a smartphone - it is more than other components of the device that is subject to mechanical damage. As can be seen from the tests below, the GALAXY S4 screen protector (the most cherished, oversized Gorilla Glass 3) withstands multiple drops of a metal ball on its surface from a decent height. No scratches.

Drowned

It so happened that water and electronics rarely make friends with each other, and many of us probably learned this from their own bitter experience (just like your humble servant, once forced to save the dreary mobile from the stench bowels of a public toilet with his bare hands). Puddles, sinks, toilets, ponds ... Favorite smartphones now and then strive to slip out of their hands and suddenly sink to the bottom. GALAXY S4 and here simply must not give in. To test its water resistance, the working phone was immersed in water, removed from it after a short period of time and tested for operability. The smartphone has survived! The quality of its functioning test was not reflected at all.

Hot and wet

High temperatures and moisture can quickly and surely disable even the most reliable electronic devices. I think, further it is possible not to explain how the long-suffering GALAXY S4 test samples were tested. Smartphones were placed in a controlled environment with a very high temperature and humidity, where they spent five days. Even after this grueling test, the mobile device remained fully functional.

Total

All these countless and merciless tests were conducted by Samsung experts in order to provide users of the GALAXY S4 with guarantees of the reliability and stability of the smartphone against numerous hardships and force majeure situations of everyday life. As a result of the experiments, we can conclude that the company's flagship is ready for any tests, but we should not forget that these tests are usually conducted by qualified specialists, so we highly recommend not doing such things at home!
