Elon Musk will soon present the project of a new system of passenger transport Hyperloop

One of the most talented people of our time, Elon Musk , tweeted that on August 12 he plans to publish a draft of his new idea for its public discussion. This is a system of ultra-fast passenger traffic under the futuristic name Hyperloop.

Technically, Hyperloop is a modern development of the idea of ​​pneumatic mail: these are pipe systems from which air is pumped out and along which special capsules with people and some payload move. It is argued that the speed of movement of the capsules is such that in six hours it will be possible to make a world tour.

The passenger capsule is a cylindrical body with a length of 16 feet (4.9 m) and a weight of 183 kg. The capsule's payload is about 4-6 people, or about 410 kg - including baggage. The capsule moves in a tube on the principle of a magnetic suspension and is capable of reaching a speed of 6500 km / h. Interestingly, the acceleration will not exceed 1G, so passengers will not feel themselves as cosmonauts.

Regarding the economic feasibility of such highways, Musk cites the following figures: building a Hyperloop between two hypothetical points would cost only 1/10 of the cost of a high-speed railway or 1/4 of the cost of an ordinary highway.

Moreover, it is estimated that at this speed the journey from New York to Los Angeles (in other words, from the east coast of the United States to the west - 4490 km according to Google Maps) will take 45 minutes, while the cost of such a voyage will be $ 100 .
