I dare to suggest that most geeks have a desire to measure or monitor certain indicators. Someone takes measurements of the dosimeter from the Chernobyl NPP, and someone is content with household meteorological data (temperature, humidity, pressure). To measure the latter, home weather stations are used and we will talk about one of them today.
Specifications from the official website of the manufacturer
La Crosse Technology is a multinational company, founded in 1991 in Alsace, France. Today it is one of the most reputable manufacturers of radio-controlled watches, wireless weather stations and other measuring instruments. Recently, he has also been engaged in the development and production of systems like the Smart Home.
► Packing and packaging
A plain, unremarkable box, badly battered by our “favorite” mail.
Included only everything you need: instructions, a few brochures, an external sensor, a mount for it and the station itself.
► Weather station
In size and shape, La Crosse WS9257 resembles a regular photo frame. The case is entirely made of plastic. On the front panel is a monochrome display. The viewing angles are good, 7 contrast levels are available. Illumination, unfortunately, is missing.
The back panel is made of gray ABS plastic. Along the perimeter of the case is dotted with perforated holes.
The central part is reserved for a compartment for two batteries of frame size C (LR14), above it are five controls and an opening for fastening to the wall.
For the location of the station on a horizontal surface there is a folding leg of transparent plastic.
In general, the appearance of a meteorological station is pleasant. Build quality is also at the level, no backlash / squeaks are observed.
► Temperature-humidity sensor
Made of matte translucent plastic. On the front side has a small display to display the temperature and humidity.
It is powered by two AA batteries. The manufacturer declared up to 12 months of continuous work.

► Install external sensor
Mounting kit included, can be used in two ways. The first - as a stand for mounting the sensor on a horizontal surface.
The second - as a mount on the wall. It is worth considering that the sensor does not have moisture protection and is afraid of direct sunlight, so you have to build a visor. The last thing I did was to be frankly lazy, so I placed the sensor in the corner of the window frame, where neither rain nor the sun should reach it. The installation procedure is as simple as two kopecks. First you need to drill two holes for plastic dowels. In the absence of a normal drill, I made it a Chinese drill with a flexible shaft (the length of the power cord was not enough to the outlet).
Armed with a hammer we drive dowels into previously drilled holes. You should not be zealous, if you do not climb, then it is worth drilling out the holes.
Screw the pad under the sensor to the wall with two screws.
It remains only to insert the sensor into the holder.
► Opportunities
In order to describe all the capabilities of the station, it will take more than one kilobyte of text, so I’ll only go over the basic functions superficially. For more information I advise you to study
instructions .

The working field of the display is divided into three parts. The first field contains data on temperature and humidity indoors, hours (it is possible to set an alarm), calendar, information about the time of sunrise-sunset (since the device is produced for Europe, the time of sunrise-sunset can be set for 193 European cities. There is no Moscow in this list, for the central part of Russia, the Schwerin code (Germany) is most suitable for the rising time - identical to Moscow, the sunset - differs by about 40 minutes) and the phases of the moon. The latter is especially true for the residents of Habrahabr. :)
The second field is reserved for the display of measurements of atmospheric pressure and weather forecast. The last icon has three display modes: sunny, cloudy and precipitation. The forecast is carried out on measurements of the atmospheric pressure sensor, the readings of which are given in hectopascals (1 mm Hg = 133.322 Pa). Here you can see the graph of the history of pressure changes over the past 12 hours (upper right corner).
The last section is reserved for displaying the temperature and humidity from the outdoor sensor. The latter operates at a frequency of 868 MHz and it is worth considering that "the use of other electronic devices, such as headphones or speakers operating at the same frequency, may interfere with the correct reception and transmission of data." The range according to the manufacturer is 100 meters in open space.
There are five controls (buttons). They all have a good tactile response. The controls are a bit confusing, so you'll have to use the instructions. The blessing to do this will have only once - when you first turn on.
► Results
La Crosse WS9257 will be a great gift not only for the geek who is obsessed with monitoring various indicators, but also for the average person who, for example, wants to diversify the interior of the living room with an interesting gadget. The main profit is that now you don’t need to surf the Internet or stomp onto the balcony on a cold autumn morning to know how to dress.
