DARPA introduced the humanoid robot Atlas

While this is not the Terminator, but apparently, his arrival is not far off. For now, this Atlas is a new 2 meter humanoid robot created for the competition of the US Department of Defense. The car, weighing 130 kilograms, is called "one of the most advanced humanoid robots built at the moment." It consists of 28 hydraulic connections and perfectly balances on the "legs".

It was made by the company Boston Dynamics, noted already by the Petman robots (anthropomorphic robot) and AlphaDog (robo-dog), created for DARPA. But if they were limited to military and industrial applications, Atlas would be transferred to “civilian” researchers for programming and work.

Atlas was made as part of the DARPA Virtual Robotics Challenge, an open competition launched last October. His goal is to create a humanoid robot that would work in a disaster situation (for example, in Fukushima). Part of this competition is writing software for Atlas. Now the participating teams can already test the control program in a real situation, as previously only the simulator was available.
