Google pays the creators of Adblock Plus — the most popular extension for Chrome and Firefox — for users who decide to block banner ads in their browser still see ads from Google. According
to The Verge, with reference to the German website Horizont, Google and other unnamed companies pay for inclusion in the “white list”, which prevents their ads from being blocked.
The Horizont article does not say how much Google actually pays for Eyeo - the company behind Adblock Plus - for including its ad in the white list, and what other companies are doing the same. The Adblock Plus website’s FAQ page
states that Eyeo offers white listing for small sites for free if advertising on them is acceptable - that is, unobtrusive, silent and preferably with text instead of graphics.
The FAQ also explains that some large organizations are paying developers, because managing a whitelist "requires considerable effort." Actually the fact that AdBlock Plus will miss the acceptable advertising,
was reported at the end of 2011, but only now it became known that Google specifically pays for the admission of its advertising. However, in the settings of the extension, you can completely disable the display of any advertising.
