4K video of Saturn and its satellites

The automatic interplanetary station Cassini became an artificial satellite of Saturn on June 30, 2004, having started from Earth a little less than 7 years earlier - on October 15, 1997. From the very beginning of the project, it was assumed that the device would make 74 orbits around the planet and 45 orbits around its satellite, Titan, but NASA has already extended the mission several times and now the deadline the agency is counting on is 2017. Moreover, there are estimates of the resource life of the three engines of the device, which estimate the timing of their work at least another 200 years.

For a long time spent at Saturn, Cassini managed to get a lot of high-quality images, which was provided with special equipment, which can be found in detail here . In addition to the existing and already well-known images (a good list of impressive photos is here ), there were precedents for creating videos using them, but here the case differs from its predecessors.

The main difference lies in the technical (albeit artistic, too) quality of In Saturn's Rings video, which is presented below - 4K. It uses the original materials of the Cassini mission in their original or closest quality - in total in the amount of more than a million photographs; at the same time, the author of the video, Stephen van Vuuren , insists that in its creation computer effects were not used in principle.

To evaluate the work, in the player below you need to select the original quality (now 360p) and, in the case of a channel suitable for video of such clarity and a suitable monitor screen, you can fully evaluate the effect. The video itself is a video trailer that should be released on the screens of IMAX cinemas next year. As can be seen from the final credits, the film will be shot in memory of the outstanding scientist, astronomer and astrophysicist Karl Sagan (the author of the remarkable book “Reasonable Life in the Universe”, written jointly with another outstanding Soviet scientist Joseph Samuilovich Shklovsky, not recalling the book which “The Universe, Life , the mind "of which is impossible) and directed by Stanley Kubrick - author of the film" Space Odyssey 2001 ".
