Intel has brought
its enthusiast platform, Intel Skulltrail , to
CES-2008 in Las Vegas , which it showed with success. The prototype was built in Alienware using two 45-nm quad-core processors, moreover, to 4 GHz overclocked. In this case, a water cooling system (NWO) was used. However, ITS in this case was needed for security, because and when using air cooling 4 GHz frequency was also available. According to the source, Alienware’s Intel Skulltrail systems will soon be on sale.
And how does the
Apple MacPro 8-core , introduced on
08/01/08 , differ from the Intel Skulltrail platform for enthusiasts?
For example, in
the AppleStore configurator, you can build a
Mac Pro 3D station for enthusiasts:
CPU: Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
RAM: 4GB (4 x 1GB)
HDD1: 500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb / s
HDD2: 500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb / s
Graphics: 4 x ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB
One 16x SuperDrive
$ 5,699.00one). Actually CPU with 8 cores - is;
2). The CPU frequency is worthy - 3.2 GHz, if Apple uses a water-cooling system (WSS), which was previously installed on all standard Apple PowerMac G5, then you can easily bring the frequency up to 4 GHz;
3). ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 4-D graphics cards working in conjunction with ATI CrossFireX technology will adequately turn any modern 3D games;
four). Thanks to Apple BootCamp, there will be no problems with MS Windows Vista, and the 3D speed will be no worse than on Alienware! (see:
MacBook Pro: The Fastest Notebook Under Windows Vista )
So, the differences are not significant, just the positioning of the product on the market!
Apple positions
MacPro 8-cores as a system for designers and video market professionals, and Intel Skulltrail platform and Alienware computers for 3D game enthusiasts!
PS: And if
Alienware on the Intel Skulltrail platform will be insanely expensive, then it makes sense to go to
the AppleStore configurator ;)
