Video report on the state of the computer industry in 1991

Hello, habrareyd, sitting behind their monitors in such a hot time, instead of swimming somewhere in the ocean.

To my surprise (and great joy), the previous post turned out to be very popular and hit the main page of Habr, and the film mentioned in it was viewed almost 7 thousand times. Let me remind you that in the post it was a question of the youtube-channel of Soviet educational films, and, in particular, a 28-minute film masterpiece “Learners about computer science and computers” was offered for viewing.

Over the past two and a half months, our video archive has been replenished decently, and at the moment it has more than 120 educational films of the widest range. You can familiarize yourself with the contents of the archive here , besides teaching films there are rare materials from the history of Russian television of the 90s, such as B. Yeltsin’s congratulations on the New Year 1994, screensavers of TV channels relevant at that time, and other interesting things. By the way, three video tapes with the most rare TV material from the 90s are now being processed, so I’m recommending those interested in our TV history to subscribe to the channel so as not to miss something hot. But back to the topic of Habr.

I want to bring to your attention the film “Computers and We,” in an optimistic manner telling about the achievements of us all in our favorite industry from the point of view of the distant 1991. You will see not only all sorts of ancient computers (mostly PC-compatible, but one ancient Mac is definitely there), not only dot-matrix printers and plotters, not only the robotic production of state-of-the-art VAZ vehicles of the 8th model, not only taxi database operators and traffic police, but and deaf-and-dumb children, the completely deserted Nevsky Prospect (shot from Volga GAZ-24), the first Moscow-based McDonald's, and a working computer, it is not clear why it was placed in an aquarium with fish at COMTEK '91.

Enjoy watching!
