Ukrainian police seized VKontakte caching servers in a third-party investigation

On / in Ukraine, they have now seriously taken up the payment systems (Webmoney, Yandex Money, etc.), and now the social network Vkontakte has come under fire. Most recently, Nikolai Durov reported that the Ukrainian police seized the company's servers, which were located in the country. The seizure was made as part of a third-party investigation, which has nothing to do with Vkontakte.

In any case, this is exactly what Nikolai Durov writes. As far as you can understand, the Ukrainian police took out the Vkontakte server (caching servers, which accelerated the loading of audio and video recordings for Ukrainian users) in order to search in their spare time for the financial documents of the company that is being investigated.

At the same time, it is not entirely clear why financial documents of a company can be stored in a social network (of course, there is a function to upload documents, but it’s unlikely that any of the companies will store their documents, especially financial ones) in social networks.

At the same time, no charges were filed against the social network itself.

Nikolai Durov himself puts forward such a version of what happened: “There is a version that this is some sort of disassembly between some Ukrainian telecommunication companies, within which one of the parties turned out to be profitable to use the policemen in a similar way. I don’t know if this is true or not, but it’s well known that the Ukrainian law enforcement system is no less corrupt and “privatized” by various groups that use it to achieve their goals than the Russian one. ”
