Elon Musk, the head of SpaceX and the head of the board of directors of Tesla Motors (this talented man recently had a good article on Computerra, and he is also a modern prototype of Iron Man) recently showed a new system that allows an electric car to “refuel” in a little more than one and a half minutes Thus, one of the main disadvantages - the time required to restore battery power - is eliminated.

Technically, the process is as follows: the driver places an electric vehicle over a special technological opening at the station, where special sensors align it so that the automated system can unscrew the bolts to remove the discharged battery (its weight is 544 kg) and install a new one in its place. Thus, no participation of either the driver himself or the “tanker” as such is required. Moreover, the timing of the operation is 1 minute and 33 seconds.

The new battery replacement system for electric vehicles will be installed on existing Supercharger stations, where Tesla owners can charge their cars for free. The “can have fast or you can have free” system will work - in other words, those who have no particular hurry can continue to “refuel” for free, which requires, of course, some time; for those who are time critical, will be able to use the battery change system, which, as mentioned above, works much faster, but costs a certain amount of money.

It is argued that the price of the question of changing the battery of an electric car will be equivalent to the cost of 57 liters of gasoline, which, however, is more convenient than regular refueling. For the company itself, installing a battery replacement system is an expensive pleasure and costs about $ 500,000, however, a new development will appear by the end of this year. At each station there will be 50 replaceable batteries that can be charged, including from solar energy.
