As indicated in the title, the US Federal Aviation Agency is planning to revise the current rules regarding the use of personal electronic devices by passengers on airplanes. According to the information provided by the Wall Street Journal, an advisory group of 28 people would recommend easing the current rules. At the moment, the use of electronic devices by passengers during the flight is governed by the rules that have remained unchanged since 1966. As you know, in airplanes they now demand that any device be turned off before it is picked up by an aircraft of a certain height (this is another matter how passengers fulfill these requirements).
So far, the recommendations of the advisory group are not yet fully prepared; nevertheless, it is known that the council considers the current rules to be untenable. If the US Federal Aviation Agency agrees to the advice of the council, passengers will have more freedom in using their personal gadgets. Some devices, such as electronic readers, can be used during the entire flight. A formal decision will not be made until the final version of the FAA recommendations (and this will happen no earlier than the end of September of this year).

It is worth noting that the resolution of the use of cellular communication in the cabin is not yet discussed. Perhaps the rules for using cell phones will also be revised, but for the time being there is a permanent ban on calls.
As mentioned above, the current rules for working with gadgets in the cabin were developed about 50 years ago, when lawmakers tried to provide options for the influence of user devices on the navigation equipment and radio equipment of the aircraft.
Among other things, the commission recommends that the FAA influence manufacturers of aircraft in order to introduce serious protection against interference and the influence of third-party signals on the operation of the equipment of flight systems. As far as one can understand, passengers of flights serviced by older aircraft models will still be forced to turn off their devices (although according to the same commission, a third of passengers violate the established rules on the use of electronic devices, accidentally or intentionally). Well, new airplanes will be maximally protected from the influence of passengers' devices, so you can use almost everything.
