The international final of the Imagine Cup will be held soon in St. Petersburg
This summer in St. Petersburg two important events for IT students will take place: the final of the ACM World Programming Championship and the international final of the student competition Imagine Cup . About 90 student teams from all over the world will gather for the international final, and for several days they will compete for the title of prize-winners in several nominations at once: innovations, social projects and games, as well as many additional nominations.
In this article we will tell you what will happen at the finals, and how you can get to this event ( registration ) and personally communicate with all the teams, judges and other wonderful people who came to the finals. By the way - among the jury members will be Alex Pajitnov , the creator of the game Tetris!
The international final of the Imagine Cup is officially held from July 8 to July 12, 2013. The main events are scheduled at several venues at once in the city, but the performances themselves will take place on July 9 and 10 at the Park Inn Baltic hotel . During the first one, each team will have to hold a short (10 min.) Performance before the jury, telling about its project, and on the second day, the teams will communicate with each jury member directly for 15 minutes, demonstrating their decision in practice.

Only the participants of the final, the accredited press, and of course the jury members will be able to get to the performances of the teams themselves. The presentations will be held in parallel in several rooms. In addition to the presentations, there will be other events for the participants - trainings, lectures, etc. For these two days, the hotel will turn into a unique multinational island of student thought, where the brightest and most active students of the planet will be gathered.
The culmination of the competition will be the award ceremony, which will be held on July 11 at the Alexandrinsky Theater . The ceremony will be led by Matt Smith , also known as Dr.Who . This ceremony will be closed, but we will play a few tickets for it among the exhibitors.
In general, within the framework of the final, many other interesting events are provided for students - presentation trainings, speeches by mega-speakers, a cultural day (a separate visit to Peterhof will be organized during the off-hour time), etc. Who cares - this is the full schedule of the event .
By the way, there will be three teams from Russia at the event, one in each of the categories. In games, this is the MAIQuad Damage team, which made a unique implementation of a Lasertag based on Windows Phone and augmented reality, in the category of innovation - the HSE team Out Of Focus , showing the amazing Kinect magic, and in the category of innovation - the Gesis team from Chechen State University (Cherepovets), based on Kinect system with tactile feedback for the rehabilitation of children with diseases of the musculoskeletal system. These teams have come a long way to get to the international finals - they were selected from 300 other Russian teams during the 12 regional finals and then the Russian finals.
