Note to habrovchanam: Java 7u25 auto-update breaks itself in combination with Internet Explorer 10, Win7 & Win8 OS.
Symptoms of the problem: Java does not start.
The problem is fixed by manual reinstallation through the Java website. Interestingly, a manual update from the site does not create such a problem.
