Microsoft refuses DRM restrictions on Xbox One

One of the main complaints about the recently announced Xbox One console was severe DRM restrictions: regional blocking of games, restrictions on the purchase of used games, reselling games only in certain stores with the permission of the publisher, donating games no more than 1 time per game and only registered friends on Xbox Live, contacting the Microsoft server at least once a day, offline play no longer than 24 hours, etc.

Microsoft has spent a lot of time and effort to develop such an advanced system of control over digital content. But users did not appreciate this effort, did not appreciate it at all.

Descriptions of the future limitations of DRM caused a massive wave of negativity on the forums and gaming media. Moreover, a few days after the Xbox One announcement, Sony unveiled its PlayStation 4 for $ 100 cheaper than the Xbox One, with more powerful graphics and no DRM restrictions.

To the credit of Microsoft, she found the strength to admit a mistake. Yesterday, Don Mattrick, president of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business Corp., published an appeal to users on his official blog.

“Since the announcement of our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard a lot from you, read your comments and received your feedback. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of you for helping me decide on a different future for the Xbox One.

You told how much you like the versatility of modern game discs. The ability to lend, give and resell games is of incredible importance to you. Also important for you is the freedom to play offline for an arbitrarily long time, and without regional restrictions around the countries of the world.

So today I announce the changes on Xbox One and that you can play, donate, lend and resell games exactly as you do on Xbox 360 today. "

So, an internet connection will not be required for offline play. After a single installation of the system and registration online, you can play offline as much as you like with any disc, without ever going online. You can even download games from Xbox Live - and play them offline.
