The latest news of the world, this time, e-books made me remember about the "omnipresence" of Android. Where have we seen the system? In TVs, cameras, watches ... Maybe I missed something about refrigerators? However, the readers on this platform still rarely come out, so I could not get past a couple of new Android Onyx readers.

The theme of E Ink e-books on Android is not at all new, overseas manufacturers played a significant (in the sense of - the main) role in their distribution. I think many people remember and even still use the same Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch. The price is the engine of progress, and the model in Russia was sold (naturally, by “gray” import) a maximum of $ 140. Now you can find and for a hundred dollars. There are representatives of the Android-reader community and Sony.

Onyx is not the last company in the Russian reader market. As it turned out while reading the section “About the Company” in a press release, Onyx was the first to bring “books” with the Pearl display to us in 2011, then the first in the world in 2012 showed the Pearl HD models with multitouch. The first in our area is a Pearl HD reader with a backlit MOON Light - guess again who's merit.

Actually, about the updates - we meet Onyx BOOX i63SL Kepler and Onyx BOOX i63SML Kopernik. If someone does not know, with the names Onyx always liked to experiment, and the company usually unites the models in the series. For example, a given pair is a “scientific series”. How this is explained is a mystery.
It is no secret that in Russia they like to sell inexpensive readers, originally intended only for US citizens. On the example of the mentioned Barnes & Noble model, the main drawback of cheapness lies in the microscopic set of supported text formats. The matter is fixable, but still. So, in Onyx readers we have at hand TXT, HTML, RTF, FB2, FB2.ZIP, DOC, MOBIPOCKET, CHM, PDB and EPUB.
In this case, I do not quite understand why Android was needed. After all, the system is just needed to get rid of format discrimination and strike an omnivorous CoolReader on artificial constraints. The reason for the availability of Android 2.3 is not entirely clear. By the way, if someone shares scenarios for using E-Ink Android readers in tasks other than reading, I’ll get to know with pleasure.
Here I wanted to write that, judging by other Onyx models, the company has its own “axis” for readers, and sensory ones. And suddenly I realized that Kepler and Kopernik displays are not sensory! In any case, the mention of the touch screen function I could not find. I don’t know if I’ll get the models for a test, but for a personal acquaintance in the light of the “revealed” features of new products, the validity of having Android is a big question for me.
In general, the characteristics of the Onyx BOOX i63SL Kepler and Onyx BOOX i63SML - that is necessary. Then you and 6-inch E Ink Pearl HD with a resolution of 1024 x 758 pixels, and the protection of the screen with a metal plate. For hardware, the entry-level tablet is straightforward, with a 1 GHz processor and 512 MB of RAM. Own memory is a bit, 4 GB, although for a book collection is enough. Perhaps the memory card slot will be in demand in the Onyx BOOX i63SL Kepler with a 3.5 mm audio output. The battery capacity is 1,600 mAh, which gives "up to a month of battery life." I suspect that in an amicable charge there will be enough weeks for two or three maximum. Do not forget about the highlight MOON Light. For the management of the reader responsible five-position joystick plus side paging buttons.
PS In the meantime, “into the subject” I dug in the closet, given to my beloved Sony PRS-300 two years ago :)
