After Hurricane Sandy caused heavy damage to New York (and not only to it), some companies and individuals began to think about the need to create charging stations for gadgets that would not depend on conventional power supply lines. And in some areas of New York there was no hurricane of electricity immediately after the “visit”, the lines were restored for more than one day, and all this time, residents had to look for a source of energy in other areas of the city where the destruction was not so severe. Now three companies, AT & T, Goal Zero (manufacturer of "solar" equipment "), Pensa Design (designer office) are implementing the project of creating a network of autonomous charging stations that receive energy from the Sun. The project is called
Street Charge .
This is not just an abstracted project, yesterday the first such stations were installed in Fort Green park. Later, similar stations will be installed in other public places, including parks, squares, etc. The most interesting thing is that the authors of the project provided for the availability of cables needed for charging gadgets. That is, there is no need to run home for the wire, if you do not carry it with you. Each station includes 6 USB ports, with micro USB cables connected (for Android / Windows Phone / BlackBerry devices) and cables for Apple devices. There are also 3 additional USB ports to which you can connect if you have your own cable.
')

Street Charge “charging stations” will be available to people 24 hours a day, so they will be useful not only for situations with hurricanes / earthquakes and other cataclysms. Each of us has probably been in a situation where you need to receive / send a vital message or call, and the phone is discharged. Now the people of New York have an alternative. The initiators of the project hope that people will not occupy a place “under the Sun” for long, but stop for a quick, 10 or 15 minute recharge, which is enough for an emergency battery reserve, after which the phone can be recharged at home or in the office. The total battery charging time using Street Charge will be equal to or even less than in the case of using a standard charger and a conventional electrical network.

Needless to say, such stations need to be supervised by the police, since thieves / lovers of destruction do not sleep. But this is already the task of the authorities, but Street Charge partners are doing everything possible to provide a reliable source of energy for the locals and their gadgets.
