Google Wiki-killer opens up new ad space.

Google has a new goal, and this time it is Wikipedia. On the Google blog , the company announced a new product that will be able to challenge and replace the digital knowledge of Wikipedia.

Baptized "Knol", the new product will invite "people who know how to write an authoritative article about it," said Udi Manber, a Google engineer who participates in the project.

Google will not be an editor, but unlike Wikipedia, posts will not be edited by the community. Google also stated that the author, who will make a significant contribution to the project, will be identified by name. For authors who agree to include ads in their posts, Google plans to share revenue.

If Google can find an alternative to Wikipedia, then the revenue from placing ads can be huge. According to recent data from Nielsen Online, Wikipedia had 107 million visitors in October. But, despite the popularity of Wikipedia, a site that allows public editing has often been criticized for its inaccuracies.

“We believe that the knowledge of the author will significantly help users to better navigate the network,” said Manber (Udi Manber).

TechCrunch called the announcement of Knol a potential game in the online reference information market. However, Wikipedia is still not fully rooted. In November, the creator of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales (Jimmy Wales) announced his search engine Wiki, which he called "The worst nightmare of Google."
