Google's first WordPress plugin

Recently, Google posted their first plugin in the official WordPress.org directory. Google App Engine for WordPress replaces some WordPress core functionality to complete its work on the App Engine cloud hosting. About support for the PHP language on the App Engine platform, Google said back in May at the Google I / O conference.

PHP support for App Engine is currently in experimental mode, but as demonstrated on Google I / O, the platform copes well with all the needs of WordPress, and the new plugin allows you to use Google Cloud Storage to store your music library and Mail API for working with email. .

One of the current limitations is the inability to update the core, themes and plugins right from the WordPress admin panel. According to the developers, this restriction is a security measure, and all file updates should be done exclusively via appcfg.py.

If you want to try WordPress on the App Engine platform, we recommend referring to the article Running WordPress (English) on Google Developers.
