During the COMPUTEX 2013 exhibition, I was lucky to visit with a tour a new Supermicro plant in Taiwan near Taipei. The complex of buildings was completed last year, and production started a few months ago. The plant is located in an ecologically clean area, therefore serious measures have been taken there to protect the environment from industrial pollution. The production of servers is divided into three separate zones: the production of power supplies — Compuware , the production of cases and cooling radiators — Ablecom , and the assembly of servers and storage systems — Supermicro . In fact, these companies are part of a whole. Ablecom and Compuware are also represented on the market as independent producers, but only Supermicro is known worldwide. It took me some time to understand the interaction scheme — for example, the Ablecom power supplies, which are installed in Supermicro platforms, are actually made on another floor of the plant by Compuware. And Ablecom is engaged in the production of components from sheet metal - stamping, welding and assembling cases and chassis, manufacturing cooling systems and disc baskets. Then all this is transported to the next building where the Supermicro production is located. In addition to the local components, other components for the production of platforms are delivered here - in particular, motherboards designed by Supermicro. The assembly shop was not allowed to take photographs, but it looks like a spacious, bright room with an area of more than 1000 sq. M. Several conveyors for manual assembly of platforms occupy only a small part of the total floor area. This is due to the fact that production is in the process of debugging, and the main power has not yet been launched. On the way to the production of Ablecom, we met rooms for testing, a R & D laboratory and other rooms in which the Chinese sat and were engaged in business. The tour was very interesting, but to our general disappointment, we were practically forbidden to take pictures almost everywhere.

Well, now a little offtopic, who cares ...
We walked around Taipei with a colleague and stumbled upon an underground shopping center. It looks like a long underpass (300 meters), and on both sides are pavilions with all sorts of things. There I stumbled upon a shop, which could be called: “Paradise of the radio amateur” or “Million trifles”, in general - the Mitinsky market on an area of 8x6 meters. Barely gone ...
