The Central Election Commission invented to broadcast the election results via sms, according to Vedomosti . The experiment started in the Novgorod region, and by the parliamentary elections in 2007 they plan to provide the service on a federal scale.
It is reported that within 10 days before the elections to the Novgorod Duma (to be held on October 8), any subscriber of VimpelCom, MTS and MegaFon can subscribe to a package of sms messages in order to quickly track the voting process. It is supposed to introduce three information packages worth about 50 rubles. Cellular operators say they don’t count on a service.
The data will be received on the basis of processing the results of voting at intervals of several hours, as they are entered into the GAS Vybory system. This creates new opportunities for public control, and parties will have the opportunity to quickly compare data on the voting process with information received from their observers, according to the Central Election Commission.
