I would not write myself if I knew where to read about it. Everyone has their own office and desktop; but when we say "desktop metaphor", we mean that there is something in common with different desktops, and this is what we have in common and make up a metaphor. The same office. Documenting is common, but what else? Say, search and classification of documents is common? why isn't it an office or a desktop? If we continue the theme of nostalgic memories, it turns out that at the time of XT / AT there was no single office and a single “window interface” and debated in what sense separate programs should be “integrated”. And these discussions did not end at all, but, so to speak, broke off. It seems to me that today we are simply looking for other ways of program interaction than implemented then. Now you can see all the office work through the analogy with blogging, imagine a sort of friendly documents, as in EverNote, for example. Quite an office; so a complete office suite could be built. Just put the tabs vertically, you know? and display the last N documents filtered by keywords, if necessary. And it’s quite obvious that work with scientific periodicals should be organized this way, especially since many (alas, not all) journals post abstracts in RSS.
