Security researchers have discovered a new way of illegally introducing programs into an iOS device using a modified charger. A team at the Georgia Institute of Technology says that charging them can download arbitrary software to any iOS device for one minute from the moment they are connected. According to the researchers, "all users are now at risk", since hacking does not require any interaction from the owners, the device does not even need a jailbreak.

Hackers can even hide applications, so that they will not appear in the installed list. It is not yet clear whether the charger can download malware - applications in Apple iOS are isolated by default and you can install and run only correctly signed applications - but the attack vector is still very dangerous.

The charge itself, which the developers called Mactans, is quite large — it is based on BeagleBone, a small Linux-sized computer on a $ 45 credit card — but it could probably be reduced to the standard charge of an iPhone or iPad. And start spreading.
Hacking and charging will be showcased
at Black Hat in June. During the presentation, the authors will explain how the USB functions helped circumvent Apple's defense mechanisms and what needs to be done to protect against such an attack.
