Public VPS templates for Linux / Windows - invite authors and admins to create a service like AWS AMI
A huge number of diverse software requires careful configuration of the VPS and the maintenance of hundreds of templates up to date. Amazon Web Services uses community support to support AWS AMI (Amazon Machine Images). We at HOSTKEY do not have the resources for this and ask for mutually beneficial assistance from our community. In short - we invite admins and programmers to help us with the creation of popular templates for mutual benefit.
Most complex programs with open source are difficult to install, you need to know how to do this and have operating experience. According to README, it is usually not immediately possible to achieve success without spending a few hours behind the console. A month later, an epiphany ensues that everything is done quite differently. There are ready-made AMIs in Amazon. We are looking for authors for a local service similar in functionality to AMI, only better.
A typical example - we have a project in the final beta which allows you to organize your personal free dropbox on a virtual machine . With a downloadable agent for synchronization, with web access, different users - everything is almost like in dropbox, only no one except the owner has access to it and the disk can be of any size. This is a complex system, to put it a long and dreary. We supply a free version in the form of a virtual image which can be deployed on our infrastructure and used. The project receives a ready-made combat demo and royalties without additional hassle.

We offer - Hostkey provides free VPS on its infrastructure for creating templates . You put on them the necessary and useful software, adjust the whole structure, describe on the page how it works, where to lubricate and how to use. You answer questions from users on your template. You update the software on the primary machine, monitor its security, ensure the stable operation of the VM collected from such templates. We make a pattern with it according to your address, we give you a check on the functionality of the clones.
If you are selling a commercial software, you can also put it on a VPS - we will be able to make such VPS automatically, highlighting the cost of the software in a separate line in the order. That is, you can make a VPS template on Windows with an application program for say, designing a sewage system and deliver it for a month to a client for 500 rubles. The client will do what he needs, we will get 100 rubles for VPS and the author of the software is 200 rubles. The software can be modified so that it would work only in the environment of this particular VPS and extracting it from there to your computer will require substantial paid efforts of specialists in picking out. In general, there are lots of options.
We make such a template available for ordering, describe it on our website, send documentation on its use and provide technical support for the VPS. Connecting the template will take about a week.
And now the main advantage is that the author of the template receives 10% of all payments from customers who ordered VPS on its templates . If there is some separate software on the UPU for which you want to receive money, it should be described separately and when ordering such a VPS, the author will receive the money according to the scheme specified by him (do not violate other people's licenses).
We use System Center 2012 for Windows and SolusVM for Linux / FreeBSD, everywhere there are templates from which VMs are cloned. When a VM is deployed, the orchestrator allocates resources to it, sets up the network interface for a static address and changes the password. Windows requires more manual activation.

- What platforms are available? All major Linux, FreeBSD, Windows 2008/2012 is out of the box. VM can roll with arbitrary ISO and put software on it.
- Can I make several VPS working in a bundle? no problem, they will be on the same node and can use virtual VLAN
- What resources can a VPS have? We use large nodes, you can up to 12 cores and 128GB of memory on the VM.
- What parameters do nodes have? 2xE5645 2,4GHz 12 core / 24 thread / 192Gb RAM / 10G connection to iSCSI files
- Where are these nodes? In Moscow and the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, there is no System center / Hyper-V yet.
