Norwegian Schibsted eyeing the Internet

The Norwegian media concern Schibsted , which publishes the free newspaper “Moi rayon” in Russia, is exploring the possibilities of entering the Russian Internet market. This was reported to the Lenta.ru correspondent by the deputy general director of My District, Bernard Mohr, who represents the interests of the Norwegian shareholders in the publication.

The Schibsted publishing group conducts business in 18 countries and specializes mainly in free newspapers, classifieds and online information resources. The only asset of the media group in Russia so far is the free St. Petersburg newspaper “Moi rayon”, in which, according to Kommersant , 66.7% belong to Norwegians.

According to Mohr, Schibsted considers buying a stake in a Russian newspaper as an opportunity to get to know the Russian market better. The company has already begun to invest in the development of the Internet version of "My District", but in the future, it is possible that the Norwegian media giant may acquire one of the Runet resources.
