Hot press release from the original source.
On the eve of the New Year, DEFA Interaktiv decided on a bold experiment: to give everyone the opportunity to write New Year's greetings on the home page of their site -
www.defa.ruNo censorship. Everyone can make a greeting of those words that he deems appropriate to the occasion. And the words, in turn, will be composed of letters, with each letter being a photo downloaded from
www.flickr.com')

“The topic of urban typography has always been very interesting to me,” says Roman Pavlenko, creative director of DEFA Interaktiv, “how the letters fit into our environment, interact with us. It turned out that on the Flickr website there are a lot of photos with letters from real life, and all of them are beautifully searched for by the corresponding tags. Further was already a matter of technology: we just made the engine that turns the letters into pictures. At the same time, we made up for the lack of Cyrillic letters on Flickr by uploading our photos there. ”
The main idea of the project, however, goes beyond the new year and typography.
“We are not afraid to let people freely express their feelings,” says Roman Pavlenko, creative director of DEFA Interaktiv, “because this is one of the main possibilities of the Internet: to say and be heard. Now, when many are talking about censorship and restriction of freedom of speech, including in new media, it is very important to remind the public that on the web it is impossible just by definition. The Internet, no matter how pathetic it sounds, knows no bounds. ”
Realizing that not all visitors can dispose of freedom of speech for peaceful purposes, the creators of the site wisely leave a footnote: "Congratulations of visitors to the site may not coincide with our own greeting: Happy New Year!"
The resulting motley canvas everyone who left a greeting will be able to send to your friends. It will also be added to the archive, available for public viewing.
New Year's DEFA Interaktiv project will be open from December 25 to January 13 at
