Google vs. Microsoft on the example of YouTube and Google Talk

On the very first day of the Google I / O conference, Google CEO Larry Page said that Microsoft’s attitude towards open standards upsets him: the company uses them, but does not share its developments with other market participants, which hampers the development of the entire industry. I received a peculiar response from MIcrosoft, which means that in the coming days, Google Talk chat will appear in Outlook.com. The introduction of which will allow Microsoft account holders to communicate directly from their usual email service with users of Google services. Currently, chat support is limited to text messaging only, no voice communication. In addition, Google Talk contacts will be integrated into the calendar and Microsoft contacts, and the integration of Google Talk contacts into SkyDrive will allow Microsoft and Google users to collaborate on files.

But that's not all. Michael Straw told a blog that in the next GDR 2 update for Windows Phone, Gmail users are waiting for a small gift, namely, Microsoft will introduce support for calDAV and cardDAV, which will make it possible to use Google services despite restrictions from the search giant.

For quite a long time, Google announced that it would not support its own services and would not release its applications for the Windows Phone platform (one application is Google , which is more than perfect, despite the updates), explaining that its market share is small. But Windows Phone has already taken a stable third place and, apparently, does not stop, of course it may not be as fast as we would like, but still.

A lot of smiles and dissatisfaction at one time caused the YouTube app from Microsoft, which was a link to the mobile version of the site and quite recently after the upgrade turned into a great app for viewing popular video hosting without ads and the ability to download videos on a smartphone. From myself, I note that the application is very good and began to overshadow the Metrotube, which I have used for a long time.

And yesterday it became known that Google requires Microsoft to remove the application from the Windows Phone Store, as it violates the rules for using the service, which is the lack of advertising and the ability to download video to the device, despite the fact that such unofficial applications are in the same Play Market. Microsoft, in turn, wrote a response letter requesting to issue all the necessary APIs for the ability to display ads in accordance with Google's request and not to deprive the Corporation of Good bread.
Google, of course, can go to a meeting, but it can also release its own application or go for further confrontation with Microsoft. But the main thing is that only users will suffer and not for the first time.
