The Georgia Institute of Technology will give a master's degree in computer science online for $ 7,000

On Tuesday, May 14, a landmark event occurred in the world of online education. The Georgia Institute of Technology, which, according to many ratings, is one of the top 100 universities in the world, and often falls into the top ten in technical specialties, officially announced that it will soon be possible to get a master’s degree in computer science for less than $ 7,000. Training will last three years. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in computer science or related fields and pass the entrance exam. Reception of documents will begin in the fall of 2014. The program is designed for 10,000 participants.

Georgia Tech partners have become Udacity and AT & T. Udacity will provide not only a technology platform for online courses, but also the services of “mentors” who will oversee the process and answer students' questions. Thanks to this, Georgia Tech will have to expand its staff of teachers by only eight people. Udacity will receive 40% of tuition fees, the rest of the money will go to the institute. AT & T sponsors the project. All course materials will be available free of charge on the Udacity website.

Co-founder of Udacity Sebastian Trun writes in his blog that this agreement with Georgia Tech is one of the main events in his life. Online education is reaching a completely new level, because now a university of a world-class university can officially receive tens of times more people, paying many times less (one year of study at Georgia Tech costs $ 40,000 for non-resident students).

On the page of the Institute in Udacity, you can subscribe to the newsletter about the project news. In addition, a detailed FAQ is posted on the Georgia Tech website.
