Horiuchi told the Japanese PC Online site: “Other specialized graphics software is expensive, and Excel is already pre-installed on the PC,” adding that the program is easy to use and more familiar than paint.
The pensioner said that he did not use Excel in his normal work.
“I saw other people carefully building graphics, and I thought that Excel could be used to create pictures.” Before he left the company, he felt that he wanted to do something new. He bought a computer and started using Excel. And ten years later, he established himself as a digital artist, demonstrating his work at exhibitions.


Other artists used Excel to draw, of course. However, how many of them are pensioners creating traditional and stunning Japanese motifs? Little!
