A 5 millionth domain is registered in the ORG zone, reports the ORG administrator, PIR (The Public Internet Registry). The domain is popular both among non-profit organizations and public projects, and among trademark owners.
To attract the maximum number of interested parties to the ORG domain, since the summer of 2005, PIR has contributed to lower registration prices in regions such as South America, Asia and Africa. As a result, according to Edward G. Wiltz, president of the company, the number of registrations increased worldwide by more than 25%.
For comparison: the COM domain today has about 56 million second-level domains, in the NET zone - more than 8 million domains.
