Valve tests biofeedbacks in their games.

Valve began testing biofeedback technologies based on sweat secretion and eye movement, which is part of a common effort to incorporate user emotions into the company's games. Mike Ambinder, a permanent experimental psychologist Valve, discussed the development at the conference NeuroGaming Conference and Expo, which was held last week in San Francisco.

As Ambinder says, Valve has already started experimenting with sweating players in Left 4 Dead, where the level of sweat was correlated with the excitement the player was experiencing. The received data was transferred to the program, and the gameplay was adjusted to them ( here , by the way, an absolutely amazing presentation about AI in L4D).

The company also developed a version of Portal 2, which was controlled by eye movement. “For now, these are experiments, but the game works well and we are happy about it,” said Mike.

Valve makes no secret of its experiments with the introduction of biometrics and emotions in the game. Last year, for example, the company recruited a psychologist, and company head Gabe Newell emphasized the importance of biofeedback in one of his interviews.

When such technologies appear on the market is not yet clear to anyone, but Ambinder notes that deeper physiological integration can open up new horizons in conjunction with games.
