How we took questions to the President

On Monday, April 22, we received unusual calls on the telephone of our technical support at +7 (499) 647-40-40: they called Vladimir Putin to ask questions. It turned out that people in Israel, Germany, Turkmenistan, the United Arab Emirates and other countries saw our phone in news releases of Russian channels, where it was reported that this number could be used to call Vladimir Putin’s direct line. And since, in addition to ours, only Rostelecom number 8 (800) 200-40-40 was shown in the news, which it was impossible to call from abroad, everyone started calling us.

Until Tuesday, we had time to listen to a lot of people, along the way explaining to them that there was no way we could help them and convey the message to Putin, that an error had occurred.

Fellow citizens abroad were lucky, since we are a telecom operator and are engaged in the provision of telephony services . The idea of setting a call forwarding came to us only on Tuesday. Thus, we made a voice menu to separate call flows. In the case of pressing 9 - answered our technical support. And if you don’t press anything, the call was transferred to Rostelecom 8 (800) 200-40-40. This was done by simply setting up the call flow, as shown in the figure:

The call to the number 8-800 was made free of charge, thus, no one incurred additional expenses.

What was especially surprised: for the time before we set the redirection to the Rostelecom number, only elderly people called. Accordingly, the bulk of the questions that were asked to us are about pensions: a small pension, it is impossible to receive a pension by proxy, etc.

Brief summary:

1. According to statistics, we transferred about 1000 calls from abroad to Vladimir Putin’s direct line.

2. Advertising with our number was shown by ORT (Russia), RTR-Kiev (Ukraine), RTR-Planeta (Germany, United Arab Emirates) TV channels

3. The organizers of the president’s communication with the people and Rostelecom have not posted the number available abroad on the official website.

4. We phoned everyone with whom we talked in person and asked to call again immediately after setting the call forwarding. So everyone got the opportunity to ask your question.
