Wiki Weapon rifle: 12 thermoplastic parts on a 3D printer

Defense Distributed, a non-profit organization and its founder, Cody Wilson, have been testing various parts of the AR-15 rifle printed on a 3D printer for a year. It's time to take the next step - go from individual parts to the whole layout. Cody Wilson announced that he was ready to lay out a fully finished rifle model in about two weeks.

The Wiki Weapon rifle can be made from 12 parts. In the whole structure there will be only one metal part - a drummer. Everything else, including the barrel, can be printed from ABS plastic (ABS +).

ABS plastic is a shock-resistant technical thermoplastic resin based on a copolymer of acrylonitrile with butadiene and styrene. This is a very durable material from which to produce parts for cars. Naturally, not every printer is suitable for printing such a rifle.

Cody Wilson can not guarantee the reliability of the rifle. After two weeks, he will only make the first copy. But it is already clear that she will have an original design that is different from all existing models of weapons. Most likely, the first copies of the Wiki Weapon will be ways to produce only two or three shots, until some part melts and fails.

After testing the rifle, Cody Wilson promises to put the files on the Defcad website so that the community will evaluate the design and make the necessary modifications.

According to the US Constitution, every citizen has the right to make firearms for self-defense, for this you do not need to obtain any licenses. True, there is a law Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988 , which prohibits the manufacture of "spy" weapons, invisible to metal detectors. A plastic rifle probably falls under this definition.
