"Yandex" puts Moscow traffic jams estimates

From today, Yandex evaluates traffic jams on the roads of Moscow on a ten-point scale. On the main page of the portal Moscow Internet users can inquire about the degree of congestion of roads and see a special icon - “Yandex traffic light”. Information about traffic jams is updated every 5 minutes, you can learn about them in detail on Yandex.Maps .

The scale of traffic jams is based on statistics accumulated since the launch of the project “Traffic jams”. One, two or three points on the scale correspond to traffic at night or on weekends - at the traffic lights, respectively, the light is green (the words “roads are almost free”). Working traffic is usually determined by 4-5 points (yellow light). When red turns on, it may be worth taking the subway.

“Traffic information is no less important for every Muscovite than the weather forecast or the exchange rate,” says Maria Laufer, Yandex.Maps service manager. “Now, looking at the main page of Yandex, one can decide not only whether to take an umbrella, but also whether it is worth going out now.”

Information about traffic jams is updated simultaneously on the first page of the portal and on the map of traffic jams in Moscow, opened at the end of May this year in cooperation with the information agency SMIlink. Information sources are traffic police of Moscow, automatic detectors of vehicles, data of the agency’s mobile unit, and also a call-center for motorists.
