A trojan that, without the knowledge of users, replacing Google advertisements (texts and links), was
discovered by BitDefender specialists . Called Trojan.Qhost.WU, this Trojan program modifies a Hosts file on an infected computer with domain names and IP addresses, which, respectively, are transmitted to domain name servers to download inappropriate content.
The danger that this trojan carries is double. First, problems may arise with advertising space holders, as Trojan.Qhost.WU simply redirects users to other sites. Depriving, thereby, advertisers of potential earnings. Well, and secondly, the virus can be dangerous for users as well, since the sites to which “fake” advertisements lead can with high probability contain malicious code.
