73% of Americans have not heard of Google Docs.

The NPD group recently conducted a social survey asking 600 US residents if they know about online alternatives to office suites, such as Google Docs, Google Spreadsheets, gOffice, and how often they use them. According to the survey results, it was found that 94% of those surveyed had not heard of anything like this before, and only 0.5% of respondents admitted that they prefer online office solutions to standard Microsoft Office and non-commercial counterparts.


Google Docs is perhaps the most visible development in this area, but according to Chris Swenson, director of analytics for the software industry, at the end of 2007, Google Docs use 840 million personal computers, which is about 0.18% of their total number.
