In Kiev, Kiev Games Night was held on the topic "How to open your game dev studio"
It is surprising that no one has covered this event. A week ago, a “Games Night” conference took place in Kiev. The event was divided into two parts: a block of mini-reports (5-10 minutes each) and a round table, where the speakers answered questions from the audience (which gathered an unexpected amount). And also - free communication. Admission was free.
In general, the initial message of meetings of this format was “to give people the opportunity to meet / talk”, because Our exUSSR gamedev has a rather low amount of horizontal connections, which is sometimes a problem.
Each of the speakers shared his experience of creating an igrodelcheskoy studio. He told about the problems that he had to face, gave advice, etc. ')
Reports was 11:
Andrei Harutyunyan ( Colibri Games ) - about how a team of 3 people made their game
Andrei Prokhorov ( 4A Games ) - authors of a series of Metro games, etc.
Artem Mironovsky (Nival Red) - about how the team go under the wing of the giant Nival
Oleg Yavorsky ( Vostok Games ) - about how the authors of STALKER were looking for funding for a sequel
Igor Karev ( Tatem Games ) - authors of “Anabiosis” and many other games
Ken Leaver ( Eastlabs ) - an incubator gaming startups
Oleg Klapovsky ( GOG.com ) is the 3rd largest platform after Steam and Origin
Evgeny Zhukov ( Digitilus ) - about how and when to go on Kickstarter
Oleg Pridyuk ( Unity ) - about how a team of 3 people in the garage with the money of one of the parents wrote the world famous engine
At the end of the conference, one of the organizers, Sergey Klimov (the one on the video with the beard :), made some summary of the requirements for the creators of the game dev studio and wrote about it on his blog . In short, this is: Experience, Abilities, Vision.
Unfortunately, nobody recorded the video from the round table (or I don’t know about it).
For the conference, we are thankful to her ideological inspirers and organizers: Sergey Galenkin ( @galyonkin , blog ), Sergey Klimov ( @sergeiklimov , blog ) and Mikhail Kuzmin ( @kuzmitch_ru ).
In the near future, the team has plans to hold similar meetings in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Also, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that every week these same people record a podcast dedicated to the gaming industry, where they talk about domestic cooking, often invite interesting guests, etc. In general, I highly recommend to anyone who is interested in game-devoting.
