Today, Toshiba executives announced their decision to join a group of companies that are jointly engaged in the development of 32-nanometer process technology. The group leader was the company IBM.
Now the newly formed alliance includes seven companies: AMD, Samsung Electronics, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing, Infineon Technologies AG, Freescale Semiconductor, as well as the IBM and Toshiba mentioned above. All of them will be engaged in research, development and subsequent promotion of the 32-nanometer process, as well as the production of the corresponding chips. The alliance’s joint work will continue at least until 2010, and it is by that moment that the first chips produced by the new process technology are expected to appear.
