Google will change the appearance of search results for Europe, "give odds" to competitive services

For about three years, officials of the European Union have been analyzing the work of Google search service and its impact on the work of competitive services (Yelp, UrbanSpoon, TripAdvisor). If you remember, the companies that own thematic search services (tickets, restaurants and cafes, etc.) filed a joint lawsuit against Google, complaining of the impossibility of competing with the search giant. The corporation, after a series of court proceedings and work with EU officials, went to meet, and soon a new version of search results, so to speak, European will be presented.

First, Google will let users know when the link leads to the “native” service, and when - to third-party services / resources. In addition, when showing one of his links, Google has committed to show three links to competitors' service. For example, when showing links to Google+ Local in search results, the links to the Yelp, UrbanSpoon, TripAdvisor resources, plus other relevant services and sites will be shown.

The agreement with the EU authorities extends to the search services of the corporation, including the restaurant, financial and "shop". In addition, the results of the issue on Google News will be highlighted and separated from the main search results. All this will allow Google to avoid monetary penalties and any restrictions in their work in the EU.

It should be noted that, despite some changes in the appearance of the search results, the search algorithm itself in this case will be virtually unaffected. It is clear that not all companies competing with Google services will be satisfied with relatively small changes in search results.

The other day on Habré already published news regarding a complaint from Microsoft, Nokia and Oracle, filed against the monopoly of Android applications from Google. It seems that court proceedings regarding the “monopoly of Google” in Europe will continue for a long time.
