Continuing the story with LitRes: a possible lawsuit against Alex Exler

I think all the residents of Habra can restore from memory the history of the company liters that submitted requests to delete the Reader applications in the AppStore, Moon + Reader on Google Play, and threatened the developers of the Cool Reader program to repeat the same with them. As we remember, the story stopped at the fact that the programs were restored in the app stores, but to some extent, “caved in" to the requirements of LitRes. The story of the blackmail of developers has become widely known due to the fact that it was replicated by many online resources, in particular, Alex Exler on his personal blog devoted to combating the unfair actions of the company for two volume posts. ( 1 , 2 )

And on April 10, 2013, the events received a new unexpected turn. Exler was sent (or, more precisely, was framed) an attorney-at-law inquiry filed with the Masterhost company in order to find out the following:

1) Who is the administrator of the domain exler.ru, full name, address, mailing address and contact phone number
2) Domain registration date
3) When the administrator became the owner of the domain

5) The IP address where the Internet resource is physically located, indicated by the specified domain name.

And further. Above the list of required information it is written that the request was submitted by the lawyers of the company "LitRes",

in the framework of the provision of legal assistance to the client in preparation for filing a lawsuit on copyright protection .

Both Exler's posts did not exactly violate anybody’s copyrights, except for the link to the Flibusta homepage, solely in order to show that only Cool Reader had the built-in links to the resource. Therefore, two options are possible: either the lawsuit was sent to a third party, and Exler and his website were needed as evidence, or the lawsuit was really directed against exler.ru, but its validity remains completely unclear. In any case, something is planned.
