Raven , the developer of such expanded Star Wars games like
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and
Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy , has long been asked to release the source code of the single player components of their Star Wars games. And so, a final reason for this was the final
dissolution of LucasArts, the publisher of these video games.
In a comment from "Raven" for the site "
Kotaku " the following was said:
Today in Raven we are saddened to hear about the closure of LucasArts; For years, we respected them and enjoyed working with them. [...] We wish all the best for talented people who have been fired, and we hope that they will be able to find work in other gaming industry studios.
We love and appreciate the experience of creating Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy for LucasArts. As a gift to the ever-loyal fans of our games of the Jedi Knight series and in memory of LucasArts, we release the source code of both games so that anyone can enjoy it and dig into it.

The released sources do not have any official support, and everything is given at your own risk and risk. According to Raven, modders will have to work hard to get the engine to work with game resources. The engine of both games is a modification of id Tech 3 (Quake 3), the source codes of which were published back in 2005. The code contains only the single player component, since some parts of the multiplayer contain third-party licensed proprietary code and cannot be opened.
