Two days ago, Yandex released a new version of its Navigator. There was no official announcement on
Habré , but
shifttstas did a
review of new features. A separate thread of comments, as I expected, was the
discussion of the voracity of the program. For example, my Navigator on my Samsung Galaxy Note consumed a battery even when the auto-charge was connected (standard!). Usually the charge kept at the same level or, at best, grew by 1-2% per trip, but from time to time the phone was discharged “to zero”. I agree, this is a problem of specific devices, similar cases are noted on SGS II, but to eat all the processor resources, even if it is of one core, is too much for a navigation program.
And today I noticed that during the trip to work with the Navigator, the battery was charged from 12 to 20 percent. At the same time, the device did not heat up as much as usual. Yesterday I launched a new version on the tested Highscreen Yummy Duo - the device lay with the Navigator running and the screen turned on for 3 hours and was discharged by only 30%. Previously, the battery completely died for a couple of hours of operation of the navigator without charging. In the list of improvements for the current version there is nothing about optimization. So maybe it happened by chance. In any case, I express my gratitude to Yandex and I hope that this correction, nevertheless, is made deliberately and will not be lost in the next version. If so, then maybe someone will answer the question why modern navigation software is so demanding on resources? As far as I understand, a 3D hardware accelerator must be used to render a three-dimensional map. After all, even playing HD-video consumes much less resources.
PS Who has already tried the new version - confirm whether you have improved battery consumption.
