The other day, we conducted a more or less field test of the Bond Cars. In the garages it was closely, he did not drive very hard. So we got to a small test site near Tula, where Opel was successful and killed. The plans had a spectacular jump from a springboard with an explosion in the middle of the flight, but they did not have time to get permission for powerful pyrotechnics, so they had to give up the explosion. But the drive turned out better than the garages.

A control check was planned over the Internet using an intermediate command server. As usual, everything worked at home, but in the field, according to the law of meanness, the Internet refused to work. Although on the eve checked Yota - the connection was excellent. And on the day of testing, the weather deteriorated sharply, it snowed occasionally, Yota refused to work flatly. It's a shame, of course, but now what.

In addition to the tablet, a duplicate control was provided with a simulator steering wheel and pedals (sometimes visible on the video). The steering wheel and the pedals are connected to the second virtual stream, which receives information from them and sends it via a transparent wireless UART to the virtual track that is installed in the machine. For every fireman there is a special button on the steering wheel that turns off the processing of commands received via wi-fi. The steering wheel worked without problems, but it was not really taken off on the video, since the TV people were mainly interested in controlling the tablet :-)

Mechanics has been finalized. The brake began to work almost instantly. They added a horn (in the first tests it was very lacking). Steering wheel tested with full motor voltage (24V), turns very quickly. But since they did not have time to install the encoder on the steering wheel (to track the extreme positions), we decided not to mock the steering rack and leave 12V for now. Otherwise, it is difficult to stop the rotation of the steering wheel in time, and the helmsman will turn off the motor; without tracking the position, we decided not to risk it.

Thanks to Opel for dying after the shooting, not at the beginning. And he just died - he didn’t endure the rotten body of bullying. Automatic transmission from the moment of purchase has already fooled (a sharp water hammer when switching from D to R through a neutral), I tried to switch more carefully, but still the box came Khan - the reverse was covered. We will not repair any more - Opel fulfilled its mission and exceeded it.

The most interesting thing is how much hype went after the first publication about Bond's Wheelbarrow. Well, they didn’t do anything especially mega-cocked, but they wrote to everyone, even Top Gear . We have the only caveat - the machine is not controlled by the Arduin in conjunction with a regular laptop, but our favorite brainchild does everything - the virtual tape .

In general, now we are looking for a better car, so that it is really possible to drive powerfully. A huge polygon has already been found, special for testing cars.
