Video games for training soldiers in the American army have been used for years. But more recently, the US military has organized a special project unit, which, as planned, will be engaged in the development of video games and their adaptation to use for training soldiers.
The head of the new division (rather, the office), which received its name - TPO Gaming (Project Office for Gaming Training and Training Directorate (TRADOC)) - Colonel Jack Millar notes that “they will not distribute copies of Halo 3 to the soldiers”. And not because they consider it superfluous, but because, again, according to Millar, “games designed for entertainment are not suitable for training.” The main task of the unit, located in the National Simulation Center (National Simulation Center) in Kansas, is to improve the graphic component of the training video games in order to make it more realistic and simply beautiful.
In addition, TPO Gaming is going to develop a special set of software tools that will allow soldiers to "create and modify their own training scenarios." Something similar, in particular an adaptation of the shooter Armed Assault called Virtual Battlespace 2, is already in use by US Marines. True, the implementation of the “tool kit” is planned only for 2015, so the military will have to wait.
