Opera 9 will be the best browser for Ajax
In the official blog of
Opera Web Applications, one of the developers spoke about a new feature that was
integrated into Opera 9 . This very useful feature reduces server load and saves traffic when running Ajax applications.
In the traditional implementation of Ajax applications, it is assumed that the browser continuously sends HTTP requests to the server in the hope of receiving new information. Sometimes these requests receive a response, but in general they only create an unnecessary load on the server.

In Opera 9, a permanent connection is opened instead, and the server itself can send new information to the client without asking. Thus, there is no need for a stream of continuous requests to the server.
The new feature is called
Server-Sent Events (SSE) and is part of the Web Applications 1.0 specification.
