Today, March 13, 2013, without delay, a new
release of the popular
openSUSE 12.3 distribution
package has been released .
Of the innovations worth noting:
- Full transition to systemd, journald support.
- UEFI support for x86_64, experimental support for Secure Boot.
- The development of openSUSE 12.3 for ARMv7 is in full swing.
- MariaDB instead of MySQL by default.
The following programs have also been updated:
- Linux 3.7.10.
- KDE 4.10.
- Gnome 3.6.3
- Xorg 1.13
- Mesa 9
- PulseAudio 3
And, of course,
new non-boring wallpapers . By the way, the dark color scheme is actually quite pleasant.
Also, immediately with a clean installation, it is possible to run Memtest away (available from GRUB2). In addition to the above, there are
other innovations of a narrower nature. For example, this is the first release that includes the full OpenStack “Folsom” complex for cloud platforms. In addition, E17, Sawfish and Awesome are now officially supported. Also, the description says quite a lot about the increase in performance / refinement of one or another part of the distribution (integration of Bluetooth, YaST, PackageKit has been completely rewritten, etc.). Despite the fact that the distribution has switched to systemd, it is still possible to manage services using the files in /etc/init.d.
')
Traditionally, the distribution kit is available for i686 and x86_64 either in the format of a universal 4.7 DVD image, or Live and KDE 4.10 or Gnome 3.6.3, or a network installer. Live images weigh a little less than 1 GiB, which makes it impossible to record such an image on CDs, but now more programs fit on the Live image (in particular, gparted is finally included).
Let's hope that the work is done with high quality, congratulations to all users of this wonderful distribution with the release of the new release.
