In Vladikavkaz, QR-codes were hung on buildings in the historical center of the city

About the city

Vladikavkaz is the capital of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, the southern outpost of the Russian Federation. The city with an official population of just over 300 thousand people was founded as a fortress on May 6, 1784. The central part of the city: Prospect Mira (formerly Aleksandrovsky), Lenin Street (formerly Dvoryanskaya), Miller Street, Ballaev Street are built up with buildings from the late 19th - early 20th centuries.

about the project

At the end of December 2012, the pilot stage of the project “My Interactive City” was launched to place address plates with QR codes on 12 buildings located in the historical part of Vladikavkaz. In early March, the plates were installed and the project was put into operation.

The idea is not new. Back in 2011, they wrote that in Dubai all buildings would receive their own QR code ( http://habrahabr.ru/post/117118/ ). However, for Russia this project is quite fresh, since the use of QR-coding technology in the regions is in its infancy.

Some information about the user

In the code, only the link to an Internet resource specially crafted for mobile devices is encrypted. The site for each building contains historical information (years of construction, architect, famous people who lived in it, etc.). Published photos of buildings from different years. The location of the building on the map is indicated (Yandex maps are used). The object's parameters are easy to configure and, if necessary, you can easily add other information.
Historical information was kindly provided by the founder of the “Old Vladikavkaz” project.

About the system

Technically, the project is a set of modules for CMF Dotnetnuke Community Edition version 6.2.x. Accordingly, all this works under Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with IIS. Used Microsoft SQL Server 2012. ASP .NET 4.0 DBMS. Modules are written in C #.
