The collective mind HabraHabra chose the best games of all times and peoples for 2013
This post summarizes the attempts to determine the best games of all times and peoples according to the version of Habrakhabr for 2013.
The selection was carried out according to simple rules: ')
- In this post, everyone who contributed his favorite game, - Every other person voted for their favorite game.
Thus, the community acted as an expert commission to determine the best games, and the electorate for voting. And that's what we did.
Main results
In total, the post gathered over 5 days more than 1,800 comments. There were about 400 games indicated. More than 20 votes were cast 121 games. When calculating, only pluses were taken into account (I did not count the minuses, because we chose what we like). So, meet the top ten:

A little bit about the principles of selection
The complaints about the counting method are basically the following:
- Why are some games that are essentially different, like Dunes 1, Dunes 2 and Dunes 2000, exposed as one game Dunes? - Why are the voices not counted when the same game is mentioned in different comments?
I deliberately refused to divide the games into versions, although I understand that the games may in fact be completely different. Just because a lot of them.
It is also not entirely fair to count the votes scattered over various comments, because surely the same habraiser will vote for your favorite game twice (or even three times). He took the votes from the commentary, where they are most.
I was also reproached for the pathos of the name: “of all times and peoples”. I want to say that I did not want to introduce any pathos. It’s just so briefly described that we choose games of all times, not old or new ones. And all are involved in the selection and voting, not just game or development specialists.
Additional voting
Two times I wrote in a personal proposal to arrange another additional vote on the best games. The goal is to get objectivity. Then in this post, this idea was repeated a few more times in the comments.
I have a feeling that many habrauser just hurt that their favorite games did not get the first places. They perceive the survey not as new information for them about popular games, but as a sports competition. And the low place of a game is perceived as a personal defeat.
This is not true. Interviewing habrasoobschestva about your favorite games - it's just a poll, and not what is not a contest. And “objectivity” is by no means the main goal. The main goal is information.
The overall result
In my opinion, the experiment was a success. Almost 2000 comments. Small discussions were created around popular games. A lot of illustrations and videos about games. A lot of emotional reviews, mostly warm-tube. Straight hands can be warm.
Personally, out of 121 games I played only 22, and I only heard about a dozen more. That is, about 90 games I did not know, but they deserve attention.
The selection format, in my opinion, is good. You will not only learn that there is such a game, but also learn about it, share your feedback, see screenshots. Of course, not everyone will be mastered by almost 2,000 comments, but those who really love games gathered in the post.
Thanks to the collective mind
I want to say thank you to everyone who participated in the discussion, in the voting. I also want to thank those who wrote to me in a personal with suggestions and with indications of errors. And, of course, I can not imagine any other resource where such an experiment would be possible, except for Habr.
