Kinect Fusion can help surgeons

At TechFest last week, a system was presented showing how Kinect Fusion can be useful in operating theaters. This invention will help neurosurgeons literally "look into the head" of the patient before starting the operation.

A tablet with a Kinect sensor attached to it, as well as digitized brain scans, allow you to create an image of the patient's head, “supplemented” with a 3D model of the brain, blood vessels or other medical data. The resulting image can be viewed from all sides, allowing you to determine the optimal place to start the operation.

This concept once again demonstrates that Kinect has long gone beyond the entertainment industry and will soon be able to find application in various areas of our life.
